Liposuction Terminology

Anesthetic: This is a chemical which is used to cause a loss of sensation and cause numbness. This is important to the Liposuction process because it can't be performed without numbing the area that will be targeted during the Liposuction procedure.
Cannula: This is the piece of equipment that is held by the surgeon and moved around under the skin to remove the fatty tissue from the body. Some cannulas are made from a plastic material, while others are made from metal. A cunnula has the main parts, these parts are the shaft, the tip, and the handle. When the fatty tissue is sucked into the cannula, it will then make its way up through a hose, this is how it is removed from the body.
Computer Imaging: This is a process which makes use of a computer and a software program that will help to show prospective patients pictures of the results that they can see from having Liposuction performed on themselves.
Epidermis: This is your outer layer of skin.
Fat: When fat is being referred to when it comes to the Liposuction process, the fat that will be spoken of will be the layer in which the Liposuction will be involving. It's this layer of the body that will be the main focus of the entire procedure.
Infiltrating Needle: This is a thin, small, and rounded needle that is used to put the tumescent solution in to those targeted areas which are going to be the focus of the Liposuction procedure.
In Patient: If a procedure is being referred to as an in patient procedure then it means that the patient will be expected to stay at least one night in the hospital after the procedure has been performed.
Mega session: If a Liposuction procedure is being referred to as a mega session then it means that the Liposuction session will consist of a large amount of fat being removed from that patient in that Liposuction procedure. It will only be referred to as a mega session if the surgeon will be removing much more fatty tissue than they would normally remove from an average patient.
Lipo: Lipo has the same meaning as the word "fat".
Lipoplasty: This is merely a different word meaning Liposuction.
Liposculpture: This is also just another word meaning Liposuction. It is used in reference to the fact that the surgeon is acting as a sculpture by molding the body to look a certain way by removing the fatty tissue in order to achieve a certain look for the patient.
Out Patient: When a preocedure is referred to as being an out patient procedure it means that the patient having the procedure done is expected to be able to return to their home that same day, there will be no over night stay required.
Plastic Surgeon: A plastic surgeon is a board certified surgeon that specializes in performing surgeries or procedures which will directly affect the way that a person looks. They mold, shape, or change a particular part of a persons body to achieve a certain look which will be different than the way it looks currently in one way or another.
Risk: When the word risk is used it is referring to the chance that something may go wrong during or after the procedure.
